Sparkle #163: Travel with the Holiday Magazine

I recently came across some illustrated covers for the Holiday Magazine, and was curious to know more about their content and readership. The Holiday Magazine was first published in the US between 1946 – 1977, and it introduced a new and exciting glamour and lifestyle travel format for it’s readers. What set the magazine apart from it’s contemporaries was it’s strong aesthetic sense, a fun and creative layout, stellar photography and brilliant writing. An art house in Paris relaunched the magazine in 2014. They started with the essence of the first version, but also added trends from the current century to make it more…

Sparkle #159: Illustrated Travel Calendars

For me, 2015 was full of travel – both big and small. There is not a single thing I would change about any of my trips, except for wishing that they continue in 2016 and beyond! Discovering new places, people and cultures is fascinating as well as enriching. It nourishes the soul, opens your mind and puts a big picture perspective on everything. If like me, you are also bitten by the wanderlust bug, then you would have started thinking about your travel wishlist for 2016. If you need some inspiration or just want to ensure you stay on track with your plans for the next year, then check…

Sparkle #151: Nature Travel Inspiration

Winters are the perfect time to escape into the wilderness. The dense air and dark pines add a mysterious charm to forests, thus making them even more inviting during the cold weather. Imagine cuddling up with a cup of hot cocoa and your favorite book under a giant oak tree on a winter day – sounds like utter bliss! Sadly, I am several miles away from a forest, so I can only dream about these lovely winter walks. If like me, you are looking for some nature themed travel inspiration, then follow “Wintergirl” on Tumblr. She posts some amazing travel shots of forests, mountains and nature on a regular…

Sparkle #139: Minimalist Travel Tattoos

I don’t think I will ever get a tattoo – it seems too permanent! What if I don’t like what I got a couple of years down the line? I also have super sensitive skin with a low pain threshold, so the idea of getting a tattoo is not too appealing. But whenever I come across an interesting tattoo on someone else, I do get swayed by the idea for a bit. Like when I saw these charming minimalist travel tattoos below, I wanted to get one for myself too! I particularly like #8 and #10, which one do you like best? (Image Credits: Image 1,…

Sparkle #127: Travel Words To Love

Sometimes travel inspiration can strike anywhere, even when reading a word! There are some unique words in English and other languages which beautifully capture the emotions of a wandering soul. If your travel vocabulary starts at adventure and ends at wanderlust, then you might want to refresh it with something more interesting from the options given below! Aren’t these travel words fascinating? My favorite one is ‘drapetomania’, I often feel this irresistible urge to just run away to towns, cities and countries – familiar and unknown. Which one of these do you identify with as a traveler?
