Sparkle #188: The Magical World of Rune Guneriussen

I recently stumbled upon the surreal art of artist Rune Guneriussen and can’t take my eyes off his dreamy installations. Rune uses everyday objects to create stories in the natural landscape of his hometown, Norway. These complex and time consuming installations are painstakingly created by hand, and the end result is installation art which looks like a magical painting.

What I really like about his creations is the balance between real life and fantasy. The locations and structure of his installations has a mystical feel to them, making you escape into a fairy tale of your own. But the use of common objects immediately brings you back to reality. His art is open to any and all kinds of interpretation – it is what you want it to be!

I feel his installations are a treat for bored minds and souls. They make you re-connect with nature, use your imagination, slow down and go back in time.

In his own words “As an artist, I believe strongly that art itself should be questioning and bewildering as opposed to patronising and restricting. As opposed to the current fashion I do not want to dictate a way to the understanding of my art, but rather indicate a path to understanding a story.”
