Sparkle #13: On my Shelf

books becoming movies in 2015

Hello everyone, how is your week coming along? I did a crazy Zumba class today, and all I wanted to do after my workout was crash in front of the television or read a book! This inspired my Wednesday post for the week – what will I be watching and reading in 2015?

There’s no dearth of inspiration – plenty of fantastic books are being launched as movies this year. So this solves the dual purpose of picking what to read or watch! The fifty shades trailer probably generated the most buzz, but there are many more interesting choices to pick from. For instance, I recently got to know they are releasing Far from the Madding Crowd (Thomas Hardy) in May this year. I remember reading this in school such a long time ago. And Disney is coming out with the Jungle Book (Rudyard Kipling) in October – a classic story and a personal favorite.

Which ones am I waiting for? Well, here’s a quick list:

  • Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern (Romantic Comedy)
  • The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks (Romance)
  • The Choice by Nicholas Sparks (Romance)
  • Serena by Ron Rash (Thriller)
  • Paper Towns by John Green (Mystery)
  • Dark Places by Gillian Flynn (Mystery)

I haven’t read all of the above books, so before any of these movies hit the theater, I would love to catch up with my reading! I am yet to take sides in the ‘which is better – the book or the movie’ debate. I have personally loved watching the onscreen adaptions of some of my favorite books. Gone with the wind, Eat Pray Love, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Notebook, The Da Vinci Code, The Devil wears Prada, Alice in wonderland, Marley and Me, Sex and the City, The Godfather, PS I Love you, The Reader, Sherlock Holmes, Julie and Julia, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Namesake are just some examples which come to my mind (yes I am partial to chick flicks / romantic comedies). If you want a detailed list of books made into movies, check out this link on Goodreads.com.

Coming back to our 2015 list, which books/movies are you waiting for this year?
