Sparkle #146: Winter Workouts

This week on the blog we are welcoming the winter season together! Each day, I am going to talk about one of my favorite winter activities and ask you to do the same.

We always start the week on the blog with an inspirational note, talking either about health and fitness or focusing on positive sayings. Winter can be a tough season to stay on track with both diet and workout schedules. I personally find it hard to get up for my morning walk or run, and don’t feel motivated enough to hit the gym late in the evening. So what does one do to make sure all the holiday weight doesn’t pile up?

Thankfully for me, my all time favorite workout fits in well with this season, making it easier for me to stick to some form of exercise on a daily basis. I find no difficulty in continuing with my daily Yoga class even during winters. Just a couple of stretches and few rounds of Surya Namaskars in the beginning help warm up for a good one hour practice. Furthermore, it is a flexible workout which can be performed indoors, and at a time which is convenient and not too unearthly during the cold season. And Pranayam meditation is always helpful for fighting winter blues, if any. I am sure many of you still get up for your morning walk and run, but perhaps Yoga is the answer for someone like me who gets all lazy towards the end of the year. If you need help on specific poses or tips for practicing Yoga during the winters, check out these seasonal Yoga cards – they are a steal!
